The Beautiful Secret from a Qigong Master

I watched the first video I created for Breathe. Write. Breathe. (Natural Stance) and broke into a big smile when I heard myself saying, “Beautiful.” Behind it, I listened to the echo of my master teacher, Robert Peng.

I always feel blessed when Robert says, “Beautiful,” whether in a practice room at Omega Institute or Kripalu Yoga and Conference Center or as his loving gaze enters our living spaces through Zoom.

I hadn’t intended to say, “Beautiful.”

It just popped out.

Yet I immediately felt how it conveyed that same loving presence I experienced with Robert—the joy he expresses as he sees us practice.

Of course, I was in front of a camera with no students before me. How could I say, “Beautiful?” What was I responding to? I didn’t see them practicing. How could I know it was beautiful?

Connecting with Readers through the “Ethers”

Here’s how: While we recorded, I fell into the presence of the many readers who would read Breathe. Write. Breathe. and watch the accompanying videos. I truly felt how beautiful it is to connect with readers and writers through these videos; I am sharing the extraordinary practices Robert and other teachers have taught me, knowing the profound gift I received from them—which I look forward to sharing with you.

I also felt a mystical pronouncement or intention—as if my saying “beautiful” was calling forth the beauty inherent within the practices and the people who would learn and practice along with the video. I could feel the truth of the word “Beautiful” as I uttered it.

Write from your heart

As the book entered its final stages—design, layout, creating the accompanying audios and videos, preparing for launch and marketing activities—it became clear that this book was so much bigger than me. When I think of the ancient masters who handed down the mindful movement and breathing practices I share in the book and the many team members who bring such expertise, talent and love into this work, I feel awe at what we’ve created together.

I find myself uttering other words I’ve heard from Robert: Easy, relax, smile. Often, I hear his voice, feel the love he emanates, and can feel that love moving from me to you—even though you haven’t seen the videos or heard the audio yet.
