Today’s meditation “Explore Your Inner Garden” came to me during a writing retreat at Kripalu Yoga and Conference Center. I was working on another book (the one I plan to publish next) and the whole garden metaphor came up as an inner landscape we can use to tap into our creativity and explore at will.
When the idea for The Joy of Writing Journal came up, I stole my own idea and put it in this book first.
Here’s a snippet of my exploration:
I immerse myself in the center of the pond…Drenched, I feel the water within me resonate with the pond water, as if all the crazy energy of being a human in a modern world dissipates and the water within me takes on the freshness and aliveness of the pond.
Your Turn
Listen to today’s meditation and root around in your own inner landscape.
Then write! Does the inner journey spark anything in your other creative projects or a writing piece you’ve been working on?
Share a snippet from your writing, if you like. Remember, we’re not editing or polishing, we’re delighting in the rough and tumble of the journal. So allow yourself to share something brambly and unfinished.

Day 8 – Prompt – Explore your inner garden
The sun was high in the sky radiating it’s warmth on all of nature’s abundance. I was taking my customary walk, when I spotted a new path made by creature footfalls. Butterflies were alighting on the path beckoning me to follow their brilliant colors. The scent of honeysuckle filled the air, leading me towards a rustic gate and tall fence enclosure. The gate chimed my arrival and magically opened, asking me to explore it’s delights. The plants and flowers were abuzz with a vibrant corona of energy, and as I passed each one, they emitted their song of healing for me, enveloping my soul with the nectar of the gods. I laydown on a soft greening mound of moss and quickly fell asleep. I woke as the sun was setting feeling refreshed with a new idea about my book. I thanked the nature spirits and walked towards my future with confidence.

Soft dappled sunlight streams through a bower of vines to swath my skin as the sun edges to its azimuth-
Wafts of earthy pine and delicate rosa rugosa tickle my nose as I deeply inhale familiar New England scents swept up by a saltwater cooled breeze that alights on my perch-
I settle on an outcrop rooting to ancient warming granite to follow an inner path leading to thoughts and feelings that begin to stir from hibernation within my secret garden-
I watch words float from a melodic reverie and ever so slowly dance from my heart to pen to paper as ideas beckon me away, away, away
