“Write From Your Magic”

I shared a post a few months ago about embodying your book, after my inner Muse had told me to, “Be your book,” and “Write from your magic.”

Here are some more musings about embodying the book, a rough excerpt from the book I am writing for you!

Your Book Breathes

See your book as alive, as a breathing being, radiant with life.

Ask it questions, preferences. Ask for support and advice from your book.

 Trust it.

 Love it.

 Feed it.

Let your book answer this: If my book were alive, which it is, it would say ____________________________.

Whether you are  writing a book, a blog post, a poem, an essay, a journal entry, a letter to the editor, a short story, a personal letter,  or even an inspired email you can embody your book.

Your Book Speaks

Look at me—I am so beautiful—a living, breathing part of you. I live in a library of possibility and I am changing, growing, becoming more and more me, as you write, ponder and edit. I am your Pinocchio—only, I won’t lie.

Breathe with me.

Stay with me.

Breathe your life into me.

Yes, I come from your heart and you fashion me from some alchemical mixture of heavenly orb and Earthly qi.

Let these energies connect in your heart. Breathe into me, your open book.

Watch me grow wings and fly away and return, bringing you the nectar of some sweet flower whose neck is too deep and narrow for you to travel without my butterfly-like antennae. I gather nectar for you and return.

 Breathe it in.

 Smell.

 Taste.

 Open.

I come from a magical place within you, deep as the flower’s neck and vast as the night sky with a splash of stars twinkling in the dark.

Write from your magic.

We write for many reasons:

  •  to know ourselves
  •  to heal
  •  to change within
  •  to connect with others
  •  to teach
  •  to change minds and hearts
  •  to ignite a spark in someone
  •  to make activists of our fellow humans
  •  to succeed at work
  •  to transform how we show up in the world
  •  to change the world

In all our writing, whether a 200 page book or a three-line haiku, there is an alchemy possible when we allow our hearts and minds to open to those things we deeply know.

You may write stories and truths you have shared before in other forms, and share insights you know you know—and these are important.  Yet, all of a sudden, even more powerful, your writing will take you into new territory, new words, new images, new language. It will take a surprising turn, tunnel underground, carry you to the mountaintop, or even leave you at the edge of a cliff.

The Alchemy is this astonishing mixture of what you knew you knew, what you didn’t know you knew, and what you know now that you had not known a moment ago. The Alchemy rests also in the words that come to you, the unexpected image that catches your breath.
