9 Reasons for Authors to Start Blogging

Yes, Start Blogging!

One of my top tips for aspiring authors is to start blogging. Many of my clients who are now successful–and even celebrated–bloggers had never blogged before. In fact, quite a number didn’t even read blogs.

Yet, time and again, these same clients have found blogging to be enjoyable, exciting, mind-opening, lucrative and even life-changing. Some have gotten book deals through blogging. Some have landed interviews with Forbes, NPR or Men’s Health, to name a few. And, well, here are…

9 Reasons for You to Consider Blogging:

  1. Blogging helps you get clearer on your readership–who you are here to serve and how to serve them. Sometimes, your tribe is a suprise!
  2. You’ll learn more about your readers as you blog. Your readers will help you understand what topics interest them most (those will get more comments and shares), what questions they have and what they most need and want from you.
  3. Blogging helps you develop a relationship with your readers. Many readers will become fans, colleagues and advocates.
  4. Blogging connects you with other experts in your field and in multidisciplinary areas.
  5. Google will love and reward you: Google loves to see relevant content and its search engine algorithm will reward you with better ranking for relevant keywords the more you blog on the topics you wish to be known for. People will find you more and more easily, over time, as they search on these keywords.
  6. Rethinking Narcissism book cover
This book emerged from a blog post that went viral.

Blogging brings you business opportunities. You may receive invitations to speak, teach or collaborate in new ways.

  7. Blogging puts you in front of the media. Your blog can help you get interviews with national news outlets, magazines, radio, TV and newspapers. Reporters and producers search for experts on the web and your blog helps you get found.
  8. Blogging can help you get a book deal. Many of my clients have found that their blogging success helped secure a book deal. Some clients were even approached by publishers because of a specific blog post that went viral.
  9. Blogging can give you content for your book. Your readers may have interesting stories, research or ideas that contribute to your book. You may end up interviewing some of your blog readers about their experiences.

This week, I look forward to sharing interviews with two successful bloggers who will share their advice on how to pitch your blog idea to a national platform, how to title your posts for maximum engagement, how to grow your readership, tips to help a post go viral (from a blogger with millions of readers) and more.

    • Congratulations on self-publishing your book, Cassie. The magic number publishers tend to look for in a self-published book is 15,000+ books sold. They want to know that it’s selling well before taking on a book that’s self-published. Here is a link to contact me if you have specific questions: https://jodieburdette.net/lisatener/contact/
