One of my clients sent a pitch for a blog post to a very large public blog that would be perfect for her audience. She didn’t hear back.
She called the editor and left a brief message. Good thing she did. The e-mail had been mis-routed and the editor had never received it. The editor sent an e-mail thanking her for the call, telling her about the mistake and saying she’d be in touch early next week.
You certainly don’t want to be obnoxious in contacting editors, but if you’ve pitched a blog post or story and haven’t heard back, it’s certainly appropriate to make sure they received your e-mail and mention a brief sentence or two about the pitch.
It’s just too easy for e-mails to end up in never-never land. And it’s important to get your message out there. Be polite. Be brief. But sure–make that call.
