Let&#8217; see how much meat I can put in one blog post. Here are some takeaways from my interview last night with <strong><a title=\"Leili McKinley\" href=\"http:\/\/leilimckinley.com\/dap\/e\/?e=lisa@lisatener.com&amp;p=http:\/\/socialmediasellsbooks.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Leili McKinley<\/a><\/strong>, who has helped many award winning authors hit a home run with their social media.<\/p>\n<p>Below are my insights and a link to the audio recording of the call (over an hour chock full of examples of bestselling authors&#8217; secrets, specific steps you can take and answers to listeners burning questions). We didn&#8217;t get to everyone&#8217;s questions, so please <strong>list your questions as comments<\/strong> and Leili has offered to answer them below!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong> <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><strong><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Leili McKinley\" src=\"http:\/\/www.leilimckinley.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/leili-mckinley-photo-2-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Leili McKinley\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/strong><\/strong><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Leili McKinley, Social Media Expert<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Three reasons you need social media<\/strong> more than ever as an author or aspiring author:<\/p>\n<p>1. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Publishers expect it<\/strong><\/span>: For a book deal, you need to show you&#8217;re adept.<\/p>\n<p>2. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Social media creates viral word of mouth fans<\/strong><\/span>:\u00a0 The kind who buy more than one book and give them as gifts and who tell everyone about your book (often, through social media!)<\/p>\n<p>3. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>You want the momentum<\/strong><\/span> of people who want your book before it ever comes out. If your book is in bookstores, you&#8217;ll need those pre-sales and immediate sales to stay on the shelves.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">How to brand your business and book online<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>1. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Know <\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">your target market: <\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">NY Times Bestselling author Tim Ferris, author of the <em>Four Hour Work Week<\/em>, knew that his target market were self employed, small business owners who wanted to grow empires and have their freedom, too. <\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>2. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Make <\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">your key messages align with what your target market believes: <\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Tim&#8217;s message was, &#8220;You can build an empire by outsourcing most of the work.&#8221;<\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>3. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Deliver <\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">those messages everywhere your readers hang out online: <\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The experts use more than one kind of social media, because people usually need to hear the message more than once to buy. Tim blogged to build a loyal following and also connected with his audience on <a title=\"youtube\" href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=haRcPERZc6o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">YouTube<\/a>, <a title=\"bring your book to life on facebook\" href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/BringYourBookToLife?filter=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a>, <a title=\"linked in\" href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedin.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Linked In<\/a>,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.twitter.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Twitter<\/a>, <a title=\"plaxo\" href=\"http:\/\/www.plaxo.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Plaxo<\/a>, <a title=\"flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flikr.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Flikr <\/a>and <a title=\"friendfeed\" href=\"http:\/\/www.friendfeed.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Friendfeed<\/a>. You may want to be a bit more targeted if you can&#8217;t do all of these&#8211;find out where you folks hang out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>On the call, Leili also shared details about <strong>how to position your brand<\/strong> to get results, including a client of hers who was relatively unknown in the US.\u00a0 Her publisher is recording <strong>record pre-sales<\/strong> of her book due to niche branding.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_305\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-305\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jodieburdette.net\/lisatener\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/todayshow_logo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-305\" title=\"todayshow_logo\" src=\"https:\/\/jodieburdette.net\/lisatener\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/todayshow_logo-150x135.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"135\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-305\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">   <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Leili also gave details about how one of her most successful clients used social media to connect with journalists, radio hosts, TV producers and other PR contacts before his book game out.
