I took a workshop with Richard Hoffman and learned powerful techniques for writing memoir. It made me a better coach for my memoir clients and helped me write about my life in more detail.<\/p>\n<p>This year, I&#8217;m excited to be a <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><a title=\"lisa tener bio\" href=\"http:\/\/www.uri.edu\/summerwriting\/speakers.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">last minute addition<\/a><\/strong><\/span>&#8211;I&#8217;ll be on the panel for promoting your work with new and traditional media. I&#8217;m also signed up for a workshop with <a title=\"crystal wilkinson\" href=\"http:\/\/www.crystalwilkinson.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Crystal Wilkinson<\/strong><\/a> and a private consultation with a fiction author&#8211;a new genre for me to explore. Well, it&#8217;s a treat for anyone, since it&#8217;s an international conference. We&#8217;re just lucky the treat is in our own backyard.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong><a title=\"international women writers guild\" href=\"http:\/\/www.iwwg.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International Women Writers Guild<\/a><\/strong>&#8216;s annual <a title=\"remember the magic writers conference\" href=\"http:\/\/www.iwwg.org\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=151&amp;Itemid=158\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;<strong>Remember the Magic&#8221; conference<\/strong><\/a> has moved from <a title=\"skidmore college\" href=\"http:\/\/cms.skidmore.edu\/index.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Skidmore College<\/a> to <strong><a title=\"brown university\" href=\"http:\/\/www.brown.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brown University<\/a><\/strong>. It&#8217;s been years (pre-children) since I attended this yummy conference and it would be hard to justify the week-long overnight stay. Now that it&#8217;s half an hour from home, I can happily commute&#8211;guilt-free.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 203px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"iwwg conference\" src=\"http:\/\/www.iwwg.org\/images\/stories\/brown3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"203\" height=\"139\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Perhaps I&#39;ll see you at Brown<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>One thing I love about the IWWG conference is the non-linear learning. While I&#8217;ll have the opportunity to take workshops on craft, I can also take yoga, collage, watercolor, tai chi and a host of other workshops to feed my mind, body and soul.<\/p>\n<p>This is the <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">re<\/span><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">ju<\/span><span style=\"color: #ffff00;\">ve<\/span><span style=\"color: #99cc00;\">na<\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">ti<\/span><span style=\"color: #800080;\">on<\/span> <\/strong>part&#8211;so critical to our creative spirits. Both conferences offer top notch faculty and inspiring programs. But if you don&#8217;t want to wander so far from home, google &#8220;<strong>writers conference<\/strong>&#8221; and &#8220;<strong>writing conference<\/strong>&#8221; with the abbreviations of states near you and see what you come up with.<\/p>\n<p>By registering for a writers conference, you send yourself a message that writing is a priority.\u00a0 And that, in itself, will help support your <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">cr<\/span><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">ea<\/span><span style=\"color: #99cc00;\">ti<\/span><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">ve<\/span> <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">fl<\/span><span style=\"color: #993366;\">ow<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ah summer.
